Maternity reproductive reflexology and fertility treatments available
Fertility reflexology is a relaxing, holistic therapy aimed at supporting you through your fertility journey, whether you want to enhance your general health before trying to conceive or are experiencing fertility problems and having difficulties conceiving.
Regular treatments may help to reduce emotional and physical stress, balance all the body systems, and ensure your body is in optimum condition for conception.
With one in six couples experiencing difficulties conceiving, hormonal disorders on the increase, sperm rates falling, and miscarriages more common than most people realise, reflexology is an increasingly popular complementary therapy for fertility support.
Can reflexology help me conceive?
Reflexology is becoming more widely recognised as being beneficial for clients experiencing fertility challenges. When your body is in a relaxed, balanced state, the conditions are ideal for conception, and an increasing number of women believe their reflexology treatments have helped them conceive.
Pre-conceptual care for men and women
Pre-conceptual care is all about preparing the body, mind and soul for conception. It is widely accepted that before a couple can conceive, they should try and get in the best physical and mental shape possible. Both men and women are therefore encouraged to have treatments, to help regulate the menstrual cycle and to stimulate healthy sperm production.
Reflexology for balance
The term sub-fertility or infertility is used if conception hasn’t occurred naturally after twelve months of trying for a baby. Often there is no medical explanation or reason for this; rather it can be as a result of an imbalance in the body.
This can be hormonal or circumstantial due to modern day lifestyle (poor diet, stress and anxiety, long working hours) which can impact on our health and affect our body’s natural equilibrium. Reflexology promotes balance and encourages your body’s system to function effectively.
Stress and fertility
The pressure and stress of daily life can have a significant impact on health and therefore fertility too, and stress is often a key concern for people with fertility issues. The anxiety over fertility issues can also add significantly to the stress you are under and this may also affect your ability to conceive.
There could, however, be sensible lifestyle choices you can take to improve your chances. All aspects of your medical history, diet and lifestyle are explored at your initial consultation. The disappointment and anguish of not conceiving can have a huge impact on your life. Fertility challenges can be emotionally exhausting and relationships can strain under the stress. Your reflexology treatments will not only calm and relax you, but also give you the opportunity to talk about your feelings and concerns.
Reflexology combined with essential oils on occasion, may be able to help some of the common causes of conception problems such as:
- irregular periods
- lack of ovulation.
These conditions are caused by hormonal imbalance and may make trying for a baby even more difficult. The hormone balance effects of fertility reflexology can help regulate your monthly cycle, helping your periods and ovulation to return to normal, and could ease the symptoms of PCOS and endometriosis.
Fertility reflexology may also help couples who would like support with a wide range of other conditions, including recurrent miscarriage, pmt symptoms, heavy or painful periods and cystitis,
How reflexology may help
Reflexology may help to:
- enhance the body’s natural healing abilities
- encourage all body systems to function efficiently
- balance the endocrine system and hormones
- regulate monthly cycles
- promote ovulation
- strengthen the immune system
- reduce stress and anxiety
- lympahtic drainage treatment

- Relieving tired, aching feet
- Providing a sense of well-being
- symphysis pubis pain
- digestive disorders
- back and hip pain
- sleep disturbances
- oedema (fluid retention)
- stress and anxiety
- heartburn and acid reflux

- emotional disturbances and mood swings.
Specific reflexology techniques can sometimes be used to help ease these conditions.
A wonderful pregnancy is what all mothers-to-be dream of. However, for some women, the nine months of pregnancy can be a long period of fatigue and discomfort, with the common conditions of pregnancy taking away the excitement and joy of expecting a baby.
By working to balance and harmonise your whole being in preparation for the birth of your baby, reflexology aims to make your pregnancy a more enjoyable and positive experience.
Reflexology may reduce your labour time
Did you know? Research has shown that regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy can shorten the duration of labour, with many women requiring less pain relief.
Post natal reflexology
Reflexology is a gentle and natural way to help you recover following the birth of your baby.
Reflexology during the postnatal period can help with common problems such as:
- inadequate lactation
- engorged breasts
- post-epidural pain
- recovery following a csection
- feeling emotional
- hormone balancing
- post natal depression
- stress and anxiety
You may feel both jubilant and exhausted, as well as experiencing other conflicting emotions after the baby’s birth. Sleepless nights, breastfeeding problems, frustration and fatigue can all take its toll. Treatments may help to calm and relax you, lift your mood, increase your energy levels, and encourage your body to heal.
How safe is maternity reflexology?
Reflexology is safe during pregnancy for the majority of women and many midwives are now recommending it. However there are some conditions during pregnancy where reflexology is not advisable and this is why it is important reflexology is given by a practitioner who has had specific training in the specialised techniques needed to carry it out safely and effectively.
